Dr Santiago Pérez de Camino was the head of the Church and Sport Office in the Vatican’s Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life from 2013 to 2022. After working for 10 years in youth ministry in the Diocese of Madrid, Spain, Santiago was the head of the Visa Office for World Youth Day 2011. He was appointed to the Church and Sport Office in April 2013, and is now the head of the Office for the Promotion and Formation of the Laity. Santiago is a married father of four.
This presentation explores the 2018 Vatican document, ‘Giving the best of yourself: A document about the Christian perspective on sport and the human person’. Santiago discusses some of the key themes in each chapter, highlighting the ways in which sport contributes to the development of each person and how the Church can engage more fully in the world of sport.
